Roanoke opens its first real dog park… it’s about time!

It’s a banner day in Roanoke City, at least from my perspective.

After years of debate and hand wringing we are finally getting a public dog park. The “leash cutting” happened today at 5:30.

As many of you know, I have three dogs and I can’t wait to take them to the park. Being the crazy dog parent that I am, I’ve been prepping them all week. We’ve made sure they have all their licenses, gone over etiquette, etc. They are fully excited!

I know a dog park doesn’t seem like a big thing, but it’s one of those small quality of life issues that can really help a community. So, I give a cheers to Roanoke… and my dogs give a bark (and the Corgi gives a yodel).

UPDATE: So… I went to the dog park on Saturday morning. It is a fantastic facility. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should. I was surprised by two things. First, there weren’t that many people there. The weather was great, so I expected a packed house. Perhaps it will take some time to catch on. Second, I was shocked at which of my three pups seemed to enjoy it the most. My Corgi (Brinkley) is the outgoing one. The Mini Dachshund (Russert) is the most temid. And, the Mini Pinscher (Jennings) is in to everything. So, out of the three, it was Russert who owned the place. He ran, barked, sniffed, rolled, barked some more. By far, he was in his element. It was a great morning!
