Politics gone too far…

Sometimes politics just gets too personal… way too personal.

There are two recent examples of this including a new revelation (if you want to call it that) out of the New York gubernatorial contest.

The Republican in that race, Carl Paladino, openly asked if Democrat Andrew Cuomo had an affair on his ex-wife. Really, does this have a place in our politics?

And then there’s Louisiana, where Rep. Charlie Melancon released a two minute ad that not only hints at his opponents history with prostitutes, it re-enacts portions of the affairs (all of the video is at least PG). His opponent is Sen. Richard Vitter, and his past with prostitutes is well known, but should it be fodder for a campaign commercial?

Frankly, there are too many issues facing our country for these candidates to be delving into sexual histories or almost decade old affairs.

I know politics is a rough and tumble business, especially in New York and Louisiana, but these ads and accusations go too far.

I’m glad we don’t see things like this in Virginia.
