Pat Robertson goes too far… agan!

I generally refrain from commenting on Pat Robertson and his at times outlandish comments because I don’t want to give him any more attention.

But, this week, he went too far.

During his 700 broadcast, a viewer called in and asked what a friend should do about his wife who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. The man’s friend was seeing another woman.

Instead of refer to the Bible, which clearly speaks to adultery and divorce, Robertson dug into his own personal gospel and called Alzheimer’s “a kind of death.” As such, he justified the man cheating on his wife.

He went on to say, “I know it sounds cruel, but if he’s going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but make sure she has
custodial care and somebody looking after her.”

This is truly an unbelievable comment. I am dumbfounded.

What kind of person would divorce a spouse because of an illness? Would Robertson want to be left alone if he got Alzheimer’s or any other fatal disease?

This hits particularly close to home for me, as I have had several close relatives with this disease. There is no debating the debilitating nature of Alzheimer’s or the stress it places on family caregivers. It’s tough to say the least.

But, folks, that’s what families do… they care for their loved ones. You don’t file for divorce with the first irregular heartbeat, migraine headache, or God forbid sign of Alzheimer’s. No, you love them. You care for them. You treat them with respect.

Rev. Robertson would be smart to refer back to the Bible he so often references, maybe he could learn something from it before he speaks again.

Sorry that WSLS needs money so much that this program is so necessary to keep on the air.  We can take so much of this man.  Every time his foot goes in his mouth, letters coming in to get 700 Club off the air, just coming on.  How do we get him off?  Do we need a fund rinser to help the station to pay your overhead?  Just let us know how much we need to pledge.
