Part 2 of my Deeds conversation…

Yesterday, I posted part of my conversation with State Sen. Creigh Deeds re: his recent rise in the most recent polls.

Today, here’s the rest.

WARREN: How much are you benefitting from the fact that Brian Moran is attacking Tery McAuliffe and Terry McAuliffe is spending all of his time defending himself and you get to to be the third guy without anyone attacking and not focusing on the attacks?

DEEDS: “I don’t know. In many people’s minds I have been the third person in this race for a long time. Brian and Terry have to run their own campaign and they have to figure out how to best use their resources and their time and I have to do the same. I have tried, my message has remained positive.”

WARREN: “Let’s focus for a minute on the Republican ticket. Many are calling it the most conservative in recent memory. Would you agree with that and will that be part of your line against them if you end up being the nominee?

DEEDS: “I know all three of those guys and consider them to be friends. There’s not a lot of diversity on that ticket in terms of viewpoints. But, I know them all well and look forward to a spirited debate in the fall.”

WARREN: “That doesn’t exactly answer the question. Do you think they are the most conservative ticket in recent memory?”

DEEDS: “You’re trying to pin me down Jay. I swear to goodness. I don’t think there’s a lot of diversity on that ticket. I don’t think conservative is such a bad word. There’s one thing to be conservative and be open minded and be frugal and lots of good aspects to the word conservative. I think that ticket is certainly one that is lacking a lot of diversity of opinion.”
