Not a great day for the TCU community

Generally, I’m stoked when TCU makes it into the headlines. Lately it has been for its stellar football and baseball programs, it’s award winning head football coach, or its move to the Big 12. All of that is good news for the university and makes all of us alums proud to be Horned Frogs.

Unfortunately, today is not a good day in the TCU community.

17 students/football players were arrested for allegedly dealing drugs on campus. Just as the school is making a national name for itself, a handful of students had to tarnish that reputation.

As an outwardly proud Horned Frog, I am known for walking through the newsroom and thanking everyone who is wearing purple for supporting my school by wearing TCU purple. It is a running joke in the newsroom. Needless to say, I didn’t use that line today. Nor, did I wear purple.

The bad deeds of a few do not represent the school, its programs, its students, faculty and staff, or its alumni and fan base. TCU is still an incredible institution.

The TCU Nation still has much to be proud of. This blemish will pass, and hopefully soon. And I hope that I never again have to read a negative story about TCU on the news again. I much prefer to read stories about football championships, Rose Bowl wins, and BCS invitations.
