Latest example of hypocrisy… or is it more?

I have often written about how hypocrisy drives me crazy in life… particularly with politicians. That’s not a partisan statement, since politicians in both parties are just as guilty of this.

Well, now we have one to add to the legends of hypocrisy… or perhaps better put is stupidity.

Legendary Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) is chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. That means he is in charge of the committee that writes the tax laws for our entire country.

You would think he would then know how to do his own taxes and could keep up with the filings for members of Congress… right? Well, not in Rangel’s case. No, he’s under investigation for not paying taxes and misfiling his personal assets on Congressional reporting documents.

Rangel claims these were innocent mistakes. Maybe so, but shouldn’t the person who chairs the committee responsible for writing tax laws and the committee that oversees the IRS have a better grasp of his own taxes?

This all came to a head for me Wednesday, when and NBC reporter asked Rangel about the investigation and whether he will step aside as chairman until his name is cleared (if it is). Rangel dressed down the reporter rather than answer the question.

For me, that’s always been a sign that a politician has something to hide.
