Enthusiasm is always a great predictor of elections. Today, Republicans showed just how excited they are for their statewide ticket.
The Republicans held a rally outside Landmark Aviation in Roanoke. This is a traditional spot for a quick campaign rally. Basically, the candidates jump off a plane, give a quick speech to the crowd, shake some hands and answer a few questions from reporters and then jump back on the plane. It’s a fly-by if you will.
Generally, there’s only a small crowd at these events… no matter the political party hosting the event. I would say 50 would be a good showing.
Today, the Republicans had the largest crowd I have ever seen at one of these events. There were easily 150 people there… if not 200. The parking was all the way back to the street.
That is enthusiasm. It matters in elections… significantly. If the Democrats want to win, they will have to find some way to match that.
