Jackson coverage… too much or just right?

Are you tired of all the coverage of Michael Jackson?

I’m suspecting that several of you are, at least judging from the emails and calls we’ve been getting.

Just this evening, one viewer wrote, “Could we please get back to local news?
I thought that was the purpose of local stations.”

The viewer has a point… to a point. Yes, Michael Jackson died in Los Angeles and yes his death had national and international implications. And… ripples were felt here in our area as well.

Dozens showed up in Martinsville Monday night for a Jackson memorial. Many more are talking about his death, his music, his troubled life, and his legacy.

So… this is a national story that is having an impact on the local level.

Having said that, the memorial service is now over, some of the legal issues have been resolved, and for most the shock of his unexpected death has worn off. After today, it’s probably time for the news coverage to move on.

What do you think?
