It is rare that a political book comes out and people from both parties get burned. But, that’s exactly what has happened with the newly released “Game Change” by political reporters Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.
The book recounts the 2008 presidential election and has plenty of juicy tidbits about the debate preps for Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, the marital problems between John and Elizabeth Edwards, Barack Obama’s frustration with his running mate, and Hillary Clinton’s almost delusional belief that she would waltz her way through the primaries.
Of course the biggest headline so far has been about Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s strange praise of Sen. Obama. In trying to compliment the Illinois Senator, Reid is quoted as saying, Obama’s race won’t hamper his ability to win nationwide. To prove his point, Reid said Obama’s chances are better because he’s “light-skinned.” He also said Obama’s speaking style, which he described as lacking a “Negro dialect,” would aid his White House bid.
As I said, no one is spared in this tell all book. So far, all I’ve read are the excerpts from the book. But… I can’t wait to get my copy and curl up in front of a fire to read it. I know it sounds dorky. How can someone get excited about a political campaign book? Well, a political nerd like me!
