Familiar name to head up Redskins… thank goodness!

Bring on Bruce Allen! I have been a life long Redskins fan, which isn’t easy when you’re growing up in Texas.

But even as the Cowboys were winning titles in 1990’s I held true to my team. And, the past few years that has been even more difficult as we’ve watched the Redskins inability to capitalize on a great roster, some terrific coaches (excluding Jim Zorn), and a dedicated fan base.

Perhaps today’s announcement will change all of that, as the VP for Football Operations was dumped to be replaced with the son of Redskins coaching great George Allen. Bruce Allen, who will serve as general manager, has helped guide several winning teams in the NFL, including Tampa Bay, and in my opinion will be a great addition to Washington.

And, he will likely want to borrow some of his brother’s (former Virginia Senator and Goveror George Allen) political skills to learn how to work with team owner Daniel Snyder.

But, if anyone can manage Snyder and turn the Redskins around… it’s Bruce Allen. If you’re a Redskins fan… today can be viewed as the beginning of the 2010 season!
