An inspirational breakfast

This morning I was honored to be a part of the 7th annual Red Cross Celebration of Hero’s Awards Breakfast.

This was my first time to attend this event, and I have one word for it: inspirational.

Heroes from across the viewing area were honored. Some were normal people who were in the right place at the right time to save a life. Some were police and firefighters who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. Some were community leaders who have dedicated their lives to helping others. And some were service members from World War II to the Iraq War, who risked everything to protect our freedom.

These were different people from different walks of life. Most had never met each other. But one common thread ran between them all. They were humble. Some even seemed embarrassed at the recognition they received.

But, they shouldn’t be embarrassed at all. We were celebrating them for a reason. They made a difference in the lives of someone, in our communities, and on the battlefield. They are heroes. They deserve the honor. They deserve our gratitude.
