Blurring the line between politics and pop culture

We saw a further blurring of the line between politics and pop culture tonight. There was a time when it was big news when a presidential candidate appeared on a talk show like Jay Leno or David Letterman. I remember then-candidate Bill Clinton’s saxophone-playing appearance on the Arsenio Hall show back in 1992. That was considered groundbreaking and edgy.

Why can’t some politicians accept defeat? Why can’t they gracefully exit the stage, adhering to the voice of the voters? To be far, many, many politicians do. But there are some high profile examples of politicians thumbing their nose at primary results, only to mount an independent bid in the general election.
