A new poll out by Public Policy Polling, which is a firm with connections to the Democratic Party, shows that Senator Jim Webb has a lot to think about as he considers reelection.

We had a story on the news tonight that I found a little surprising. I have no doubt that if you live or shop in Roanoke that you’ve noticed the massive landscaping project happening on Hershberger Road at the I-518 interchange. We’ve gotten many calls and emails about it and I’ve had several people stop and ask me about it. The basic questions: how much is all this costing and who’s paying for it?

First off a little complaining. My TCU Horned Frogs won this weekend, but barely. Their close game was coupled with Utah’s huge loss to a so-so Notre Dame team. That is sure to hurt us in the final BCS standings and perhaps keep us out of a BCS game altogether, including the national championship game. I’m not a happy camper. Sigh.

So, if Sen. Jim Webb doesn’t run for reelection in 2012, who will? The pool of potential candidates isn’t deep. In fact, there are only a handful and most can be marked off the list early on.

Up until recently, Webb was sending all the signals of a politician gearing up for reelection in a state that is tilting red. He was shifting to the right on everything from health care to defense issues (like gays in the military) to the budget. I was thinking he’d run.
