What’s happening this week… May 31st.

First off… my mother is here. She flew in from Texas for a 10 day vacation in the Star City. We have a low key week planned. I’ll be working while she’s here, but we still will have lots of good meals, some fun shopping, a few Scrabble games, and a lot of good laughs.

Congrats to Old Southwest

Today, it was announced that the Old Southwest Neighborhood in Roanoke City was awarded the title of 2010 Best National Neighborhood of the Year by Neighborhoods USA.

Webb votes against repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

The Senate Armed Services Committee voted 16 to 12 today to proceed with a provision that would lead to the repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell law, which prohibits gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. The vote was mainly along party lines with Republicans voting to keep the law and Democrats voting to do away with. Although, there was one exception: Virginia Senator Jim Webb.

It’s May 25th and I think I already have mosquitoes. Scratch that. I know I already have mosquitoes. One check of my legs after a weekend in the yard and you’ll agree. I must have a dozen bites. Urgh.
