Horned Frog fever… here comes the UVA/TCU game

This is a big weekend for UVA fans across the area and for the few TCU fans living around here… and I’m one of the latter! I earned my bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University and my family has a long history there. Back when I was a TCU student the football team… was… well… not so hot (to be polite). Boy how things have changed.

Obama’s address and my experience with these speeches

President Obama’s address to Congress tonight was historic for several reasons. First, it is rare that a president addresses the joint Houses of Congress, save annual State of the Union addresses. President Bush did it only once in the days following the September 11th attacks.

The general election campaign has officially begun, and it appears our elections will be dominated by what is happening at the national level. Yes, I know Tip O’Neill famously said, “All politics is local.” But, that may not be the case in the 2009 Virginia elections.

Health care town hall meeting eye opening

Tonight… I attended part of Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s much advertised (at last during our newscasts) town hall meeting on health care. The auditorium at Hidden Valley High School was standing room only… and I’m not exaggerating. There must have been 600 or so people there… on a beautiful Thursday night. That is impressive.

Dems invest heavily in Deeds

We have more evidence that this year’s governor’s race will be the main attraction nationally. According to the Washington Post, the DNC just announced that it will invest $5 million dollars into the campaign of Creigh Deeds and the party’s GOTV organization.
