Today… former Congressman Virgil Goode announced that he will not run again for his old seat. While his decision didn’t necessarily shock me, it does create some interesting implications.

The candidates for governor have now survived their first encounter… the annual debate at the Virginia Bar Association’s Convention at the Homestead. You can get the blow by blow details of the debate in my, posted in the politics section of our website. But, here are a couple more observations that I didn’t include in the story.

A recent article on the POLITICO website reported that the Obama Administration sent its political director to Richmond to meet with former Virginia Governor Doug Wilder. The reason: to convince Wilder to endorse the Democrat’s candidate for governor, state Sen. Creigh Deeds.

Monday, Sen. Mark Warner gave a speech supporting the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the US Supreme Court. But, WSLS was the first to learn of Warner’s decision following a news conference in Roanoke earlier that morning.
