Vacation will never be the same

Back from a 10 day vacation and I am exhausted! As I got up each morning, wishing I could get just one more hour of sleep, I remembered hearing a dear friend tell me vacation was never the same when she had little ones. She was right.

It’s not a bad thing. It just takes getting used to. Gone are the days where we could wake up slowly and crawl out of bed and head to the beach to do nothing but enjoy the warmth of the sun and a good book.

Now are the days where a good book is Green Eggs and Ham or Dora Saves the Snow Princess before bedtime.

But now too are the days of taking a 2-year-old to the aquarium for the first time and watching in amzemnet as she explores new things for the firt time. Now are the days of trying to explain why she can’t touch the pengiuns or why mommy can’t go into the pool to get her the red ball for the beluga whale she not only spotted, but named from what seemed like a mile away. Vacation is now keeping our one year old up until 9 so he can see his first baseball game in Fenway Park, only to have him fall asleep on my shoulder in the midst of a screaming crowd after a David Ortiz home run.

Vacation is different, exhausting and worth every tiring moment we managed to capture in photographs I hope our kids one day share with their families.
