Sweet anniversary celebration

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in a very sweet way. I decided relive a fond memory surrounding our wedding… the CAKE. I’m not a huge fan of cake but my husband is. So I thought, of all the wedding planning, he could make all decisions surrounding the cake.  As far as I was concerned, as long as it looked the way I wanted it to look… I was fine with everything else.

That was, until I tasted some of Evie’s cakes. Evie bakes the desserts at Wildflour Cafe in Roanoke, one of my favorite local restaurants. When we went to a tasting with her, it was like no other cake tasting I’d ever seen. There was no pre-selected cake and fillings… Evie brought out chunks of various cakes and what seemed like dozens of fillings and icings, ganache, etc. It was deliciously wonderful. She made suggestions, telling us to try combinations I never would have thought of. I found favorites I never thought I’d have. All of a sudden I was into the cake!!!

It was a great experience and a fond memory. This anniversary, I called Evie to ask if we could do another tasting, minus the wedding cake in the end. We went to dinner at Wildflour that night. I only ate half of my dinner as I was saving room for the “tasting.” I think other patrons probably though we were crazy with all that dessert on our table. Little did they know the joy and memories it captured. What a sweet anniversary.
