I was inspired this past weekend. I emceed two events, Global Youth Service Day in Roanoke and the March of Dimes’ March for babies.
I was inspired by the hundreds of people, especially the young students, who came out for both. Despite the threat of inclement weather, they came out to help their community. Strangers, helping strangers all in the name of helping someone… whether it was the community center that got a new mural, or nursing home patients who got a visit and game of bingo from young people, to the men, women and children who walked to raise money to help the tiniest of babies born prematurely.
It reminded me of what one Roanoker told me when I interviewed him for our Celebration of Heroes. He said one of us can’t do all that needs to be done in our community but if all of us did a little bit, we could make a real difference.
