So back to work isn’t just about coming to the office. It’s about getting back in the groove at home, when you work away from home as well. It’s part of that balance thing. I am not in that groove yet and believe me when I say this, I need to be.
After I got off work yesterday, it was all about getting ready for today. I’m still not quite sure what order to do things, in order to best maximize my time. My son took a short power nap once I got home. In that twenty minutes, I washed bottles and parts, so they could dry and be refilled for today. I ran upstairs to lay out my clothes for today, and even set our vitamins out on the sink so neither my husband nor I would forget them in the morning rush.
Noah then woke up. As I held on to him and tried to get the pots out for the dinner I had already planned and prepped for, I took a moment to laugh… I thought of a cookbook a good friend gave me before the birth of my daughter. I think it’s called the “One Handed Cook.” I couldn’t help but laugh, realizing I was—with one hand— pulling out pots and had the other arm wrapped around my beautiful son.
I then got out of the kitchen and took Noah downstairs where we sat on the floor and I watched him laugh and smile. My husband calls our little boy “One big smile” because he’s always smiling. I smiled too, and suddenly didn’t mind that dinner might be a few minutes late.
