Baby Talk: I’ve introduced my daughter to TV

I finally did it. I introduced TV to my daughter. Truth be told, she already knew what it was, even though she was not previously allowed to watch it. In fact, if we walked down to the family room, she would often grab the remote control and hand it to my husband or me and say “TV on, Sox?” in reference to the Boston Red Sox. Clearly she’s been at least watching Red Sox games with my husband.

One of her favorite books is a Dora the Explorer book one of my best friends gave her. It is full of bedtime stories. We’ve also been reading Dora Goes to the beach in preparation for her first trip to the beach. So this week, I decided to let her watch her beloved Dora on the tube. She loved it.

And I loved it to. I loved watching her get up and dance at the songs and I loved watching her repeat the new words. She now says, “azul” (blue, in Spanish.) She also says Adios. I won’t sit her in front of the TV often, but I figure 20 minutes every now and then isn’t such a bad thing.
