World Cup, Chip Rules, and another SEC CWS champ?

  The Drive:
I don’t follow soccer closely enough to have been able to call this, but how may European powers will fizzle like those one-hit wonder bands of the 80’s? Brazil remains the favorite, with only Germany, Spain and the Netherlands still alive from the those Euro-powers that live and breath the stuff to a level that puts being a fan in the rear view and heads straight for the terminally obsessed. I know everybody likes Brazil but I’m taking either Argentina or the Netherlands.

  The Fairway:
As I write this, our good friend Chip Sullivan is Tied for 11th at the PGA Professionals Championship, and if I’m not mistaken, the top 15 or so get that invite to the PGA Championship. Chip had an ace today…and is one-under for the tournament. Consumate professional and family man, and oh yeah. He can play….with the big boys.

  The Green:
Hokies Baseball fans can take some solace in the fact that they probably lost to the National Champions. As I write this the Gamecocks and UCLA are 1-1 in extra innings in Game two, with South Carolina up one game to none. We’ll see, but they certainly lost to a superb baseball team.

  The Jar:
Michael Vick’s future can turn on a dime—and his 30th birthday party might have been that dime. Questioned about a shooting that occurred outside of the club after he left, Vick’s dogfighting friend “Q”...was reportedly the one shot. If Quanis Phillips and VIck were hanging out at all, Vick may have violated parole.
