The Drive: There’s nothing like spending hours planning just to have mother nature obliterate it. I promise, I had a solid plan for Friday’s Jubilee coverage, but that got scrambled early on when the torrential rains made fields unplayable. So the entire schedule with the exception of tennis, which was moved to Virginia Tech for the most part—moves to Saturday, with a number of changes. The Softball games at Veterans Park have later start times 1 and 4—so they can work on that field, and the Group AA Soccer matches will be moved to Radford high. They couldn’t very well move the Group A games, because Radford is those games, and they can’t very well have home field advantage. Most anticipated rematch: Hidden Valley vs Salem Girls Soccer!
The Fairway: Many thanks to the fine folks at Mt. Pleasant Elementary for inviting me in, and allowing me to be their commencement speaker this morning. Ms. Ellen Walton runs a great school over there—and this was an athletic bunch so I felt like I fit right in. It always brightens my day to see our future look so full of promise, and these are some top knotch kids—soon to be William Byrd Middle school students! Congrats and Good Luck to all!
The Green: Wow, did the Magic lay an egg in the opening game of the NBA Finals! I chaulk that up to not having been there. Honestly, I expect a competitive series, and I think Orlando actually wins it, despite that game one debacle. Just one guy’s opinion.
The Jar: Many fond memories of covering the Pocono NASCAR races when I worked in Harrisburg. Generally we did a lot of stories on qualifying day, as the drivers are more accessible, but I love that track, it’s surroundings, and the people in general there. The media center is a stone’s throw from Pit road and everything is easy to get to. Any you never know when a deer might wander across the track! They usually are nimble enough to avoid the speeding cars. Nothing quite like a yellow flag….for a deer.!!!!
