The Drive:
There’s no place like home..there’s no place like home…uh…um. Kansas? Lost? Yep…like Dorothy! No yellow brick road for the Jayhawks, they are gone! I have Syracuse winning it all, but have lost so many others in my bracket I’m not sure it matters. Other early losers..that hurt my heart and soul—New Mexico, Maryland, and Vanderbilt…and the Gators of course. But that wasn’t an upset. I’m not sure how we got in!
The Fairway:
The Hokies are a refuse to lose team—at least at home. The Connecticut contest was a perfect microcausm of the what they are about. No panic when down, never say die, always keep working, something good will happen…and loh and behold…it did! I looked at one of our star producers who got her degree from Virginia Tech after that one…and said—“That’s not supposed to happen…..” This team makes things that aren’t supposed to happen—happen. Let’s see if they can handle Rhode Island Wednesday night. That team has some frontcourt scorers..so it could mean some matchup issues and some pressure on Jeff Allen to behave himself foul-wise. Stay tuned.
The Green:
Tiger did some interviews this week and I am finding myself caring less and less. I’m sure I’ve talked about this in the past..but I covered the Masters in 1996 and 1997—the latter being his first win..where he shattered the course record. I’ve never found him compelling or interesting—he was almost robotic then, and now—after his fall from grace—he’s back to being robotic. When he tries to be human, it feels all wrong. I don’t know what that means, other than it doesn’t seem like him. So the jury’s out, but I’m losing interest in something that doesn’t feel real.
The Jar:
I think it’s time to take a spin down Thunder Road. Anybody want shotgun?
