Tiger, Denny, Magic and 86-ing a Nickname

  The Drive:
Tiger’s neck is bothering him. About 15 years ago the old guard—Jack, Arnie, Gary Player-were all asked about Tiger’s swing..and somebody in that group questioned whether or not he’d be able to have longevity because of the range of motion and sheer violence of his ballstriking. I’m no doctor but it sounded like something like a disk issue when he started describing numbness and tingling in his arm, fingers..etc. This could be the beginning of a “Hogan-like” era for Tiger. After Hogan’s car accident, he didn’t play often, just ramping up of the majors and big tournaments. Likely what’s coming from Tiger.

  The Fairway:
Denny seemed like he found something at the end of last season. Suddenly..he was right where he needed to be..when he needed to be there..and bang..victory!  Now..it’s happening more and more. Gibbs and Hendrick and to some extent RCR all have the equipment to win. Now, it’s up to the teams and drivers taking advantage of opportunity. In Hamlin’s case, he’s lying in the weeds…just behind he leaders…until the end. No need to wreck out early. It’s working. Denny will be a chase contender. Done Deal.

  The Green:
Orlando ran through the Hawks like a football team through those signs the cheerleaders stay up all night painting. I mean..you never expect the team to hit the sign…and bounce back do you?  The team I’m watching will beat either Cleveland or Boston. Stone cold lock.

The Jar:
If you call somebody a nickname, it’s because that’s who they are to you. It’s special. When they choose to cease being that person to you—then you gotta drop the nickname. Right?  If it doesn’t feel right, then I think it has to go—Capiche?
