The Drive:
Pretty clear Trevor Bayne did that and more..huh? I was impressed that he didn’t try to do too much..because in that atmosphere it would have been so easy to push the envelope. That said, he’s a talent, that’s what everybody has been saying—especially our friends from Knoxville who know the kid. Hopefully he gets the Wood Brothers another sponsor and can run full time in both series.
The Fairway:
The NBA All-Star weekend is almost like the circus coming to town—does anybody REALLY like the circus anymore, or do we all just go based on some memory of our childhood. I don’t think anybody really enjoys all that much about the NBA All-Star deal..but it brings back memories of when the NBA was different. The regular season, I just can’t bear to watch it. I really don’t care if the Lakers or the Spurs or somebody else gets the top spot in the West…Does it matter?? What matters is the playoffs..which feels like an entire season anyway. It’s just too long, and too irrelevant of a regular season. qualifying less teams, or shorten the regular season…please. Please.
The Green:
Don Shula was awesome, what a bring, sharp guy—still. Enjoyed that interview immensely. I haven’t had the chance to talk about that era of football in a while…the one I grew up with. Pulled out my 1972 NFL stamp book and his eyes lit up. Happy to do it. Knew his teams inside and out. What fun.
And while I’m thinking about it, the High School Region Hoops tournaments are underway, and I think we’ve got a couple of teams primed for a big run. I always like the Floyd Co Girls, and the Radford Boys look impressive to me. Christiansburg is still undefeated I never count out any team from James River. that’s just a quick look. Alleghany boys have been impressive as well.
The Jar:
Beanie: Frank here was staring at a white picket fence. Now he’s single, he’s broke, and has second degree burns all over his body. And I see a spark in his eye that I haven’t seen in fifteen years. —Old School.
