The Drive:
It’s hard to argue with the numbers—- Gibbs (Hamlin/Kyle Busch) has won five of the last seven cup races. No wins for Jimmie, no wins for Hendrick. The most telling thing..is not a stat at all, it’s just a feeling. When Jimmie Johnson got T-boned two weeks ago in a random track accident, I thought—“that never happens to him.” When he got rung up for speeding on pit road—-“that never happens to him!”. Now it does. The tide has turned. Hamlin and Busch will contend. So will Harvick and Burton, and probably Kenseth and Biffle. That’s just fine with me. Spread some luck around. The Hendrick deal has gotten old.
The Fairway:
The Hokies baseball team is climbing the national polls with military like percision. At last check—12th in one poll. Doesn’t that mean they could host and NCAA regional? I think it does! That would be something for a program that’s come from nowhere to become a power in the ACC. Hats off to Pete Hughes, in his fourth season at the helm from Boston College, the Hokies have a legit shot at making some postseason noise for years to come.
The Green:
I’m complaining about how much TNT favors the Lakers in the coverage…and of course I know why. We all do. Big market, big ratings, big money…ad dollars… you have heard this all before. But Kobe and company are dismantling Phoenix as I write this. Here we go again…LA versus somebody in an NBA final. Premature? Not based on the game I’m watching tonight.
The Jar:
I hope shrimp isn’t anybody’s favorite food out there. It could be a long time before one is actually pulled from the Gulf alive.
