The Drive:
Frankly, the release caught us off guard. Whisked out to us during the Hokies weekly media presser, it came to us…just about the time Coach Beamer did. Players gone, Coach there to explain. David Wilson, out with Mono….yikes. Chris Drager, out with what we think is a concussion. That will be disclosed tomorrow. And of course, Dyrell already gone for the year, after that scary compartment syndrome after taking a shot on the leg during a kick return. Wanna get scared? Google compartment syndrome and read. WOW. So Williams and Gregory will be returning kicks…and the Hokies will be without three very talented people when they roll to Chapel Hill.
The Fairway:
Well…the Cam Newton saga rages on, and while some look upon such a story with shock, my opinion is—business as usual. Anybody who thinks college football recruiting is all “above board” is not being realistic. There is too much money, too much power, too much at stake for all involved for some not to get involved and try to influence the process. It is…what it is. When Bowl game payouts are 11 million bucks and coaches salaries are 2-3 million, there is tremendous pressure for everybody. That’s not to say everybody is involved in this “highest bidder” deal. But it has to happen. Now, I’m a Florida grad and that academic stuff coming out while he was there shouldn’t—-if true—be any shock either. My opinion, but here it is—-You see how talented this guy is. Do you really think Urban Meyer would let him leave if there was ANY chance of him being eligible to play for the Gators? C’mon. He knew something, he knew plenty. He didn’t want the heat, the headache, the obvious inferences that are coming to Auburn now.
The Green:
Prep playoffs this weekend. My eyes are peeled on Frankin Co..tough task with Woodbridge coming—and it will be a big night both at Staunton River and Craig Co. Also, keep an eye on Alleghany, they are tough..and probably a smidge underrated going in, but I like their chances. Catch it all on 1st and 10 beginning at 11:05.
