The Drive:
The NFL labor situation is complicated, but in brief, the pie is 9 billion dollars. The owners get the first billion, then the players are guaranteed 60 percent of the rest of the pie, which is 8 billion. The owners, citing financial hardships and rising operating costs, want another billion. They also want an 18 game season to increase revenue. Also on the table is a rookie pay scale. A lockout will immediately leave 1 out of every 4 players in limbo, because the free agent market will be frozen. The draft will move forward but that’s about it. The collective bargaining agreement is set to expire on March 4th. Now..aren’t you glad you decided to stop by for all the good news!!!!
The Fairway:
The Phoenix Open..and not Hawaii…is my cue to start dusting off my clubs and thinking golf. When the PGA tour swings into Florida, it’s time. Doral, Honda, they are coming. That means the Masters is not far off. Tiger’s game is still lacking teeth, Mickelson has a decent start but some new faces are emerging. It feels like golf is ready for some new blood, and I think its coming this spring.
The Green:
13 days until the Great American Race. People are already picking Dale Jr. to win the 500. I’m not exactly sure why, Hendrick never really dominates those restrictor plate races. I do know Dale Jr. knows how to drive them, from his days at DEI, when he dominated the superspeedways. But not lately. And the new surface down there might lead to a crazy race. Handling is so good, people might be trying some crazy moves at crazy speeds on the brand new track.
The Jar:
Wat: You have been weighed.
Roland: You have been measured.
Kate: And you have absolutely…
Chaucer: Been found wanting.
William: Welcome to New World. God save you, if it is right that he should do so. —A Knight’s Tale.
