The Drive: The NBA draft has come and gone and the ACC as per usual has had quite an impact. Henderson and Hansborough…and a pair of Wake Forest stars, and the floodgates continue—Miami’s star and Florida State’s…and on and on…as the country is reminded great basketball teams are usually populated with great players. Hokie Fans disappointed by AD Vassallo’s absence should know the Bulls have signed him to their pre-draft camp in Vegas, so he’ll have a chance to play his way onto that roster.
The Fairway: I was in both shock and awe at the US Soccer teams performance this past week. I always admit when I am out of my element, and I do admit to soccer being something of a fringe sport to me both growing up, and throughout my broadcast career. I have made an effort to not only learn the game, but embrace it, but that does not make up for the lack of background. That said, after discussing this with some folks in our newsroom who understand the principles of the sport better than I, they explain that Team USA is now full of players who play together—where before, the stars made for more selfish, and less productive play. There was also constant mention about how the coaching staff change has made a difference. I feel like I’m passing along second hand scuttlebutt—-but…it is what I’m hearing. I welcome some other soccer minds to weigh in on how this type of performance could just “happen”..all other things being equal. Where there is smoke……
The Green: Chip Sullivan is back at it…at the PGA Professionals Championship in New Mexico. Four over on day one…hoping for a bounce back day today from our favorite Tour ready Pro in the valley. Because of a tough day condition wise out there, he as just 8 off the lead, and as we already know,,,Chip can drop a 64 at so at any given moment, so we’ll wait and see.
The Jar: Are we ready for some football? The ACC Meetings are creeping up at the end of the month, and the pro camps are coming even before that. Let’s kick it off…already!
