The Drive:
The Saints did indeed go ‘Marchin In.” And they did it with good schemes, team defense and just enough talent to overcome. In today’s football world, nobody has everything—-Everybody has some weaknesses. It’s a matter of minimizing the damage. And when the Colts are on the field, that means keeping Peyton from schredding you like mozarella. And it means making sure you take advantage of that defense when you can. They aren’t bad, but they aren’t GREAT. You can score on them. Drew Brees did that. Now at least some of the pain in New Orleans can be cleansed, even if the city still has a long road to true recovery.
The Fairway: Well, now. North Carolina-check. Clemson-check. NC State-check. If the Hokies can handle the return trip by UVA—a team that took them to overtime in Charlottesville—then you’ve got a serious conference title contender. Can anybody take out Duke? I think the Hokies can—they just need to defend the three. They are more athletic, more versatile, more interesting to watch! Duke lives by the three, dies by the three. Wake me. Coach Greenberg should be able to force Duke into some uncomfortable matchups on the defensive end—and take advantage. Virginia Tech is at Duke on the 21st. But first things first—UVA this weekend.
The Green: The Olympics are here…and I’ve heard very little hype about the hockey tournament. Expect an epic clash between Russia and Canada for the gold in a tournament teeming with NHL stars. Ovechkin and Crosby..the two biggest in the game—-will likely be squaring off for the gold. I think Canada is more talented but Russia always seems to play more like a unit in these things, whether it is by system or by communication, they just do. Toss up. the US, by the way, is young and overmatched here. Don’t expect a medal.
The Jar: Did you see Lombardi Gras!? Best Parade I have ever seen. The Big Easy. Never Better.
