The Hokies snub, the VHSL fun, and other musings!

  The Drive:
The NCAA selection committee has might as well be Congress right now. I get the feeling bids are earmarked, the idea of anything balanced is laughable, and we end up with 200 dollar hammers and no nails. The Hokies were left out of the NCAA tournament for the 4th straight year—-and this year they probably have their strongest argument to date. The only thing left to do, is win the ACC tournament and get the auto-bid. That’s all you can do. Get something the committee…by rule…cannot take away. Leaving anything to them is like leaving the elementary school lunchroom full of food and no adult supervision. Expect plenty of people to have fun without you, and a big mess for you to clean up later.

The Fairway:
Congrats to your state title winners..the Radford Boys AND Girls, and the Galax boys—all state champs. Hidden Valley came up just short on the boys side, as did James River(to Radford!). The Salem girls probably had the most improbable run of group of teams that made it to Richmond, while the Bath County girls made history by getting their for the first time. Coach Brown of Galax instantly becomes one of my favorites for his matter-of-fact, down to earth style and honest emotion upon winning. Congrats to him and the whole community.

The Green:
I’m on an 80’s music kick and frankly I’m thinking the music of today is just not measuring up. I’m thinking in the heat of the moment the new stuff simply doesn’t cut like a knife, and before you can tell me its urgent, I’ll tell you that I do enjoy rock lobster and the boys of summer should take care of everything….except maybe the monkey—cause he just got shocked. And I won’t dare bring up the love shack, because after all..this is a family blog. And we are talking glory days, after all.

The Jar:
You can’t start a fire, worryin about your little world fallin apart, this gun’s for hire even if we’re just dancing in the dark”  -Springsteen.
