The Drive:
I guess we should be happy the kids are trying to study. After all, those textbooks are expensive. But you have to know the football players getting free books weren’t giving them to charity. 16 of Alabama’s athletic teams are on three years probation after 201 athletes between 2005 and 2007 used their scholarships to obtain free textbooks for other students. Nick Saban took over in 2007, and said today he didn’t think this would affect his program or the kids he’s currently recruiting. Yeah, right. Wait till the other teams in the SEC get this one out on the banquet and recruiting circuit.
The Fairway:
The Cavaliers march to the College World Series probably shouldn’t shock anyone. The ACC is battle tested with talented teams, no big deal that two teams made it through. And how young and talented is this team? What…two juniors? Add to that, the experience of their coach, and the road wins they’ve already racked up, and it all adds up to a bigtime run. Pitching, and defense. Nine earned runs in 6 postseason games. That will win you some major college baseball games!
The Green: Watching the end of Game 4 of the NBA Finals, and I’m still sticking to my Orlando pick. I like the Magic as a more balanced basketball team, as I’ve said before. And they have come alive at home. If they get all three, I’m banking on them winning game six, and ending the LA dream. It can all turn on a dime, though. I’m well aware of that. That’s the power that is Kobe.
The Jar: The Phillies take out the Mets again, with an Ibanez three run shot in the 10th! It may well be another playoff type season for Philadelphia, and Buena Vista’s own Charlie Manuel!
