The Drive: We got it….We got the matchup we wanted..after all. Roger Federer was as consistently brilliant as he’s been..for most of the decade, and Andy Roddick’s reclaimation project..is almost complete. He totally revamped his game, and denied Andy Murray a shot at his home championship. Instead, the guy with the most firepower to take down Federer—I can’t believe I’m saying that, but I think it’s not true, with Nadal not in the field—-Roddick has a legit shot to win. Simply put, Federer can’t be perfect—cause nobody beats the guy when he is. But Roddick has the stuff to force him out of his comfort lone..even if its just a little, it could be enough to give us a five set classic.
The Fairway: The Nascar Boys—at Daytona for the July 4th race. Brings back memories of going to cover that race years back, during the Florida wildfires…and we ended up covering that..and the races postponement. I remember doing a live shot from the command center with a helicopter picking up up water to dump on the fire. It was crazy. Our station vehicle had four inches of dust on it from the fire, and the whole area had a haze over it that was stifling. When we drove into the usually bustling superspeedway, it had an eerie…everything is not OK feel to it. Mr Helton was the NASCAR competition chair at that point—and he graciously gave us an interview which we basically fed to the country on the situation at the track.
The Green: Speaking of NASCAR—The Jeremy Mayfield situation is on that deserves some attention. I think the guy probably doesn’t deserve to be blackballed until somebody can be sure the testing was accurate. That said, NASCAR should probably test him daily and let him clear himself..so to speak. I don’t know how much money NASCAR is spending, but they might give the Olympic committee a call..and see what processes they are using.
The Jar: I’ve got some re-charge time next week, so I’ll talk to you all again on the 13th…the night of the MLB home run derby!
