Rematch Central in Radford this Weekend!

The Drive:  It’s the time of year you’ll remember for the rest of your life in high school sports. You just don’t forget a trip to the state tournament—in anything…frankly. It burns into your memory forever. My schoolboy memories are from back in the Keystone state—but it really doesn’t matter where. If you’ve managed to advance that far, it will be a lifelong memory of details.

The Fairway:  Among the most intriguing for me, the Salem girls soccer team—-squaring off against the Hidden Valley girls soccer team…again! Let’s run em down..shall we. A 1-1 tie. Salem 1-0, Hidden Valley 3-1, Salem 2-1. Fifth Meeting coming…in the STATE SEMIFINALS!  Holy Cow!  Also…John Shotwell’s James River softball team against Glenvar. These two are not District rivals, but they are two great programs that respect each other, and try to play every year. This year, James River holds a pair of wins, 3-1 and 6-1. These are just a couple. Can’t wait for the weekend in Radford!

The Green:  Is there a reason we have to wait until THURSDAY to start the NBA finals? Please. I’m beginning to despite that which I am a part of—TV sports. This schedule has little to do with competition and everything to do with television. I would like to think there is a balance that could be drawn. It shouldn’t take almost three weeks to play a 7 game series.

The Jar:  A quick thought on something we have been kidding about in the newsroom. I’m a Florida Grad, and a huge Gator fan. Obviously. I have Tim Tebow’s “Promise to the Gator Nation” posted in the Sports department. But could ESPN please stop putting this guy on TV at every available opportunity? PLEASE?!  When the Lady Gators softball team was in the college softball world series final…he popped up again “on the phone.” Just stop in already. Every time I turn on the tube..there he is. Give the guy a rest. Give us all a rest. This coming from a Gator fan. There is such a thing as overkill….too much of a good thing. ESPN hasn’t figured that out yet. Here’s hoping they do….soon!
