Pittsburgh and Los Angeles Celebrate, and UVA stays alive!

The Drive:  I guess I’m not off base by telling you I called Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Jarrod Schultz, one of our fine photographers from Pennsylvania, is a huge Pens fan. he was mulling over Game seven when I chimed in—the Pens win this thing on the road—it feels like a close one…maybe overtime, but I like Pittsburgh 2 to 1. Bingo. Nailed it. I grew up a Flyers fan, and love the sport. What I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, is that it is the best sports to see IN PERSON—of any of the major sports. But it loses almost everything on television. So if you get a chance—go to an NHL game. You’ll be hooked.

The Fairway:  The Lakers took out the Magic, so I’ll immediately fess up and tell you I missed this one, big time. I thought the Magic were the better club, and would win it in six. Not so much. Frankly, I think they gave a way two of those games, so it should have probably gone six or seven—but I didn’t realize they were so green when it came to finishing big games. That’s the bottom line. You need a closer. They didn’t have won. The Lakers had a couple…and now they have the trophy.

The Green:  UVA is still alive as I write this, as they took out Cal-State Fullerton 7-5 in the consolation bracket.  Now they’ll get Arkansas, and hope they can play their way back to get another shot at LSU. That opening loss saw some calls go against them, but bottom line, you can’t give up 9. They have had extraordinary pitching this postseason, and that must continue if they hope to stay alive.

The Jar:  Here’s hoping that Phil Mickelson can get it done this week at Bethpage Black. I desperately want him to exorcise his demons, and in light of what his wife is dealing with, that would be fitting. This place fits his style, but there hasn’t been a golf course designed that doesn’t fit Tiger’s style…so we’ll see.  Tee it up!
