Mickelson’s Near Miss and LSU’s Baseball Fortunes

The Drive:  I am not one of those people who just blanket every Phil Mickelson near miss with “he choked, that’s what he does.”  He did not choke this year at the Masters, and he did not choke at this year’s US Open. He simply started too many strokes back after three rounds. His final round, an even par 70, was better than anyone else on the leaderboard all the way down to Tiger, who shot 69. He just had too far to come, and no strokes to work with on a difficult course. The winner, Lucas Glover, had some cushion, so his 73 isn’t as glaring—because he won.

The Fairway:  LSU’s athletic programs are the real deal. That baseball team was much better than Texas—sorry Longhorn fans, but I just think they were more talented and balanced. Just one guy’s opinion. Great series, though! UVA has nothing to be ashamed of. They were right there—RIGHT THERE..with the best in the nation. And they are so, so young!

The Green:  USA Soccer defeats the number one team in the world…...what? Did anybody see this coming?  They are already calling it a ‘miracle on grass’....as the team often used as a punch line on the international level…advanced to its first men’s FIFA final since starting play in 1916.  WOW!

The Jar:  NBA draft tomorrow night! Here’s hoping we hear AD Vassallo’s name called!
