The Drive: Watching Jeff Haniewich watch the Cavs play is like watching a matador thrash around in his sleep—reliving a goring by a huge bull. That said, Lebron and company were impressive for a while, but boy did they ever come apart at the seams late! Lebron pours in 49..and the Cavs….lose? Really? Really. Orlando is a good basketball team, and Dwight Howard can carry them when necessary. The difference is Orlando can bury you with a perimeter game if they heat up….or they can play grind it out basketball too. I still think Cleveland makes a series of this one.
The Fairway: It’s District tournament week in high school spring sports, and I got my first up close and personal look at the Patrick Henry Soccer team. Wow! It’s now clear to me why they are 16-1. They played just about the entire half of their semifinal matchup with Franklin Co. in the offensive end. They are skilled and deep and clearly well coached. It should be fun to see if they can topple some of the powers from the north and the beach.
The Green: Michael Vick is home in Hampton, and the media frenzy was….well….not a frenzy but there was a solid showing there. Mike can’t do interviews without permission and I for one am hoping they don’t allow him to for quite some time. I can’t begin to imagine the transitional period you would have to go through, and he should have some time to deal with everything else…minus the cameras and press. There will come a time when that will be important for him, to get his feelings across. That time is NOT right now.
The Jar: The Nuggets just evened the series with the Lakers as I write this. Could Denver actually face Orlando in the NBA finals? Sure. Two good basketball teams, but you know the networks want the two stars—Kobe vs Lebron. We’ll see. And we’ll keep an eye on Haniewich in the meantime. Hopefully he doesn’t hurt himself during game 2.
