Favre in Purple and Some Thoughts on Stars in Trouble

The Drive:  I suppose its time for me to weigh in on Michael Vick playing for my hometown team, the Eagles.  First of all..after covering the whole T.O. deal, I’m shocked the Eagles would do this. That said, Owner Jeffrey Lurie’s comments were telling. He talked about the move being counterintuitive, and he truly hoped that what he despised could become a force for change. I’m hoping that’s true. I never knew Mike Vick, he was long gone before I got to the Roanoke Valley. But I do believe in second chances, because we all don’t make the smartest decisions the first time around. It’s just the way it is. It’s what you become…moving forward, that matters most.

The Fairway: Brett Favre played briefly tonight for Minnesota, and when he threaded the needle between two defenders to find Percy Harvin, that was enough for me. That ball could have traveled through a car wash and come out dry on the other side. Smokin. He’s still got a cannon, but I wasn’t exactly impressed with the Vikings O-Line.

The Green:  Nascar’s Chase is closing in, and I for one..am hoping Mark Martin makes it. Not because Hendrick needs another car in there, but because Martin needs to be in there. He’s glorious for the aging guys…....yeah.

The Jar:  Can somebody explain to me how an NFL player goes to a nightclub in Manhattan—with a loaded gun and no safety? For all the millions Burress makes, he could hire enough bodyguards to form a 20 deep body shield. There is no sense in it, and I understand the importance of gun laws in cities where white tail deer aren’t running around.  Mindless, silly stuff.
