The Drive:
When a senior season doesn’t pan out..that usually counts against you. That doesn’t automatically mean you are a bust—but it does mean you have to prove yourself again. It usually doesn’t mean you become the 12th pick in the NFL draft. Christian Ponder’s selection has once again reinforced the fact that the NFL executives, scouts and so called experts are as qualified as you and I—to take a guess. An educated one, for sure..but it is still a guess. Why else would you draft a 6-2 injury prown qb who—by all accounts—needs work on the deep pass? With the number 12 pick? Wow. I know the top three quarterbacks were already gone, so shame on Minnesota for not trading up. Or—here’s a thought—wait until next week and sign a veteran free agent, rather than reaching with your golden first round selection. I’ll take McNabb, Bulger or Hasselbeck over Ponder for not one..but two more years.
The Fairway:
If you’ve never attended, covered..or otherwise kept track of the college baseball postseason—you should. I think it is one of the purest forms of sport that still exists—probably topped only by the annual little league pilgrimage to Williamsport, PA. Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, the who regional process, all unique and very bent on identifying the best teams that belong at the CWS. Love it, respect it. It’s what the NCAA should be about.
The Green:
Will somebody please wake me when the NBA playoffs have reached the conference finals? I just can’t get emotionally involved in this stuff. Too long, too many meaningless games in the regular season..too many of the same in the postseason. I remember the Sixers winning a title with Moses Malone and being glued to it. Not sure what happened after that..but I just can’t seem to get fired up for game—whatever—of the Portland-Dallas series. I’ve tried. It actually hurts to think about it. Now Dallas has actually advanced to play the Lakers, and I guess I could take a peek at the end of one of those games….yawn.

Don’t hate on Ponder… smart good qb… injury prone no he had fluid build up on his elbow and took all season to heal. Him sitting out of the ACC championship game was the only reason they lost. Guess you didn’t see the senior bowl when he was heathly…player of the game…and strong arm ok whatever when your handing off to AP and have speed on the outside like the Vikings have you don’t have to throw deep but he does have a good arm.
