The Drive:
It was a seasoned, experienced Hokies offense trading blows with a young and talented Florida State version. Cut to the chase—Florida State is on the rise, but not yet ready. They did have a ton of young talent running around out there, but more experienced players like Tyrod exposed the youth—bigtime. The Hokies defense has grown up enough to hold the fort. The celebration, despite the cold, was pretty cool to witness.
The Fairway:
The Hokies up-and-down four and four start you can probably sum up in one Seth Greenberg postgame quote. The Hokies margin of error is simply too small to make this many mistakes. They aren’t deep enough to overcome them. They just don’t have the bodies. They need somebody to come off the bench and pick them up…they just don’t have that. Everyone wondering why the same team as last year isn’t doing the same things as last year—-hold on….JT Thompson is not there. Sometimes, one guy covers a ton of intangibles. He would be that guy.
The Green:
Albert Haynesworth and Mike Shanahan were a pileup on the beltway in DC waiting to happen. Now, the big fella’s been suspended without pay for the rest of the year. He will never play for the Redskins again. Why? Bottom line, he had no interest in being a big drain clogger…a nose tackle that would have to take on two offensive lineman on every play in order for Shanahan’s idea of defense to work. Not what he signed up for…so ...he shouldn’t have taken the bonus. Ask out…say no to the money and leave. End of story.
And in the HS ranks…..It’s Eastern Montgomery…and Gretna….that will carry the flags for SW Virginia in the State Finals. Shawn Christian and his wide open aerial assault, Nick Miller and his dual threat attack. Great stuff…they will be playing back to back in Salem. Great deal for local fans.
