Big Ben, Master-Phil, and VT Scrimmage thoughts to chew on

  The Drive:
Well, I waded into the the usual sports debate before I left Thursday, and made it clear that Mickelson would win the thing to my compadres here at the station. Some would say I’m always gonna pick Phil, but with him—it is pretty easy to tell if he’ll be there at the end. The rest of his game usually reacts directly to his putter, so if he’s not missing the short ones, then everything else falls into place. He’s always been a great shotmaker, then all you have to hope for is that his driver doesn’t go on the fritz. His short game never does. Anyway, he had a couple of errant drives on 9 10 and 11 but managed to scramble for pars, and that’s when I knew for sure. This despite that eagle, eagle, birdie run Saturday.

  The Fairway:
Plenty of people want to demonize Tiger Woods this week. Folks, he’s the same guy he’s been the last couple of years—you just know a little more about him—now don’t you?

  The Green:
Which brings us to Ben Roethlisberger, and the double-edged sword that comes with being a star athlete and a multi-millionaire. Well, you are going to get the attention—that’s for sure—-but with it comes the responsibility of carrying the franchise with you everywhere you go. I have no way of knowing what happened in a bar bathroom, but what I can tell you for certain is—there is no reason the guy needs to be in a bar bathroom with anyone—-period. Let alone someone he met an hour ago…in a bar. I think half of life is recognizing a bad situation before it happens. This one screams trouble-stew..and the stove is on.

  The Jar:
Wow. The Tech offense has enough weaponry to make a five-star General proud. Tyrod looks like a Superhero. Ryan Williams might be Superman. Darren Evans could be rockman…I could go on…. The two questions that surround this team: Kickers. Defensive Lineman. Answer those by September, and you might start looking at where the BCS title game is this year. Leave them blank, and what ACC bowl replaces the Gator this year?  Is is the Sun Bowl in El Paso?  You get the picture. Still a lot of play in the wheel in Blacksburg, but I sure do like the horsepower.
