August arrives, and with it comes football fever!

  The Drive:
Well, well, well..the NFL is back with some kind of bizarre—ohhhh swap meet, which I do believe the Eagles won….now let’s see if they can win the games in the NL East that matter. The Redskins continue to do what the Redskins do. Buy high priced free agents one year, realize after the fact that it was a mistake, then give them away and get almost nothing in return. At least that’s been the pattern.  And oh, allow me to predict from the get-go that Albert Haynesworth has monster season in New England. That mess was mishandled from the get-go..and although I refuse to point blame…I’ve always felt if that guy were motivated he’d have a couple of good seasons left where he was a difference maker. Oh…he’s motivated now all right.

  The Fairway:
First class kudos to the Greenbrier for another stellar classic. While staffing issues don’t allow me to be out there from Monday to Sunday what I did see was a well-organized, well-run tournament with an ever toughing field—at a great venue. Wow. And yeah..the secret is out. More and more of the top pros will be coming in the years to come. I will wonder allowed here if the July 4th week date change will help or hurt the tournament. I’m not sure, honestly, but I think the date fits the place, that’s for sure.

  The Green.
I’ve only had a peek at a couple of high school camps to this point but I have to say I am already anticipating Amherst County’s visit to Northside to open the season. Two top-knotch programs…a ton of talent on the field..
...in August.  Brace yourselves, cause that place will be jumpin.

  The Jar:
Porter: [voiceover] Nobody likes a monkey on his back: I had three, and they were cramping my style. I was gonna’ have to lighten the load.
