American League Dominance and Some Pigskin Thoughts

The Drive:  I’ve returned from a week on Tybee Island, which is the barrier Island for Savannah, Georgia. Although I didn’t spend the week focused on television sports, I did catch enough of the local sports networks down there to tell you that SEC Football is still as insane as ever, and the majority of media types think Georgia Tech can be a threat to the Hokies dominance in the ACC this year.  Granted, things are pretty biased in Georgia towards the Jackets and Dawgs, but Paul Johnson has worked magic in that state before with Georgia Southern, and the consensus is he’ll do it again in Atlanta. But the Hokies were the overall pick to win the conference.

The Fairway: The American League captured their 12th All Star Game in 13 tries last night with another squeaker. I’m convinced the reason this keeps happening is the AL has had a good run of top knotch closers, and because of the nature of the game, with starters only pitching an inning or two, the NL competitive advantage is taken away. I’ve always felt the best group of starting pitchers reside in the NL every year. I know that’s painting the whole deal with a broad brush…a roller even, but I still think the color and tone is correct!

The Green:  The Open Championship opens Thursday, so I’ll have more on this as the week progresses, but for the love of all that is mighty—can Sergio Garcia finally win one of these. Seems like he’s bungled this major more often than the others, and for some strange reason I think he wins it this year. I realize I’m a fool to pick against Tiger, but I still don’t think his game is all the way back, so that means—not that he can’t win…but that some others actually have a chance!

The Jar: Sports fans, you must see “The Hangover.” Far be it from me to push an off-color, Vegas Bachelor party gone wrong movie on you, but Mike Tyson’s appearance is priceless.  “By the way man, where did you get that cop car from..?
