The Drive:
We haven’t seen everybody yet..for sure—but we are getting there. We’ve seen Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Patrick Henry, William Fleming, Northside, Cave Spring, Franklin Co, Rockbridge Co. and a few more I know I’m missing. We are set to visit three or four more schools this week. The point is…1st and 10 is back. Pretty much the same cast of characters, and we will once again begin at 11:05. The “zero week” show will go until 11:32:30 like our normal 11pm news. Beginning the following Friday we will go until 11:45 as in years past. I can’t wait to get ‘er cranked up. It’s going to be another great year of football in SW Virginia.
The Fairway:
All eyes at the Virginia Tech camp are on Logan Thomas, but it is worth noting that another local product—Michael Rocco—has a shot to start at UVA. The Liberty Christian Academy product was coached by his dad at LCA..and his dad was a quarterback for coach Joe Paterno at Penn State. In addition, his uncle is the head coach at Liberty. Do I need to explain that this young man’s football IQ is through the roof? Probably not. He’s probably been drawing up plays with his Cheerios at the kitchen table since he was old enough to walk.
The Green:
The Redskins have looked solid in two preseason games, and fans are bubbling over with expectations. Easy now. More established teams show less and play their young players more…in an attempt to evaluate. Teams like the ‘Skins try and get their starting unit to gel. That said, I do believe coach Mike Shanahan is a winner and will either turn this team or quit when management won’t allow him to do what he wants. By management..I refer to the owner!
The Jar:
If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.—-Sun Tzu
